In times past, the Greeks believed the gods communicated with people through oracles. The Oracle of Delphi, also known as ‘Pythia’, was one of the most powerful. The Oracle was a real woman believed to channel the god Apollo. As one Pythia died, she was replaced by another. To be chosen as a Pythia was considered to be the greatest of honors bestowed upon a woman. Leaders, including Kings and Queens, would travel from all over the world to consult The Oracle, and they would ask for advice on everything from marriage to war.
All the money and power in the world cannot erase the experience of sometimes not knowing which path to take, or what to do, and the fear of making the wrong choice. The desire for someone else to provide an answer, or for reassurance that we are making a good choice, is normal. The Pythia’s reign is estimated as lasting for more than a thousand years, and as a species we still seek answers outside ourselves. Google being a popular modern day oracle!
Having an oracle available to tell us what to do in difficult times sounds like a dream. But in truth, no matter what advice comes your way, ultimately you are the one who has to decide for yourself. Removing choice, and placing it in the hands of another, is actually detrimental to our psychological health. We all need to feel we have choice.
This is Pythia version 2.0. A place where you can seek counsel from The Warrior-Womxn’s Guild. We won’t, and cannot, tell you what to do; however, we can draw on our collective wisdom to provide new perspectives.
